She was a reporter for The Washington Post nearly a decade and covered Grand Slam Tennis and Grand Slam Football as well as basketball at multiple Olympics. Nichols, who earned two Emmy Awards during her nine-year period with ESPN and was featured in many of the network's most popular programs like NFL Countdown or SportsCenter, changed to ESPN in 2004. Nichols worked for TNT as a journalist who reported on NBA games that included regular season games, playoffs and All Star shows. Nichols has also been employed by TBS as a reporter covering golf and baseball broadcasts. CBS broadcasted the Final Four. Only a woman has been chosen from more than two hundred nominations in the history of 42 years for this award.
